Who are the Current Characters From the Candy Land Game?

Candyland has a bunch of classic candy land characters that have been around since the game was first made. The characters were added shortly after the game was first made and a big expansion in 1984 added a whole new layer to the game. Among the most popular are King Kandy, Queen Frostine, and Lord Licorice, each with their own part in the story.

King Kandy

In Candy Land King Kandy is the ‘Imperial Head Bonbon’ who lives in his grand Candy Castle. His sparkle brings joy and color to the land, but Lord Licorice’s evil plans often make King Kandy disappear. When King Kandy is gone Candyland is a dark and spooky place and it’s up to the brave children of Candy Land to go on missions to rescue their king.

Despite all the threats to his kingdom (Lord Licorice is his arch nemesis) King Kandy is the hope and happiness for all of Candy Land. But every time Lord Licorice kidnaps him, peace is disrupted and the sweetness of life is drained from this land of candy where candy characters live and play.

Queen Frostine

Originally Queen Frostine, the character was renamed Princess Frostine in the 2000’s and is all about elegance and beauty. She’s typically depicted against a frosty background with snowflakes dancing around her.

The change from Queen to Princess didn’t change her personality. It just gave her a new but still familiar look. She’s still sweet and lovely.

Duchess E. Claire

Duchess E. Claire is the sweetness and charm of Candy Land. She’s often shown wearing a beautifully crafted dress made of candy, showcasing the textures and flavors of the land. As the guardian of all desserts, she makes sure every sweet treat is perfect. Her part in the game is to guide players through sugary puzzles, so she’s a favorite of those who want a little extra sweetness on their journey.

Jolly

Jolly is the happy and goofy character who brings joy and laughter wherever he goes. With a personality as bright as the candy around him, Jolly is known for his big smile and playful demeanor. He often goes on missions with players in Candy Land and helps them overcome obstacles with his boundless energy. His goal is to spread joy and remind everyone that every journey in Candy Land should be fun and exciting.

Mayor Mint

Mayor Mint is the leader of the Peppermint Forest where everything is minty fresh! He’s known for his cool personality and laid back attitude. Mayor Mint is a strategic thinker who helps players through the challenges of Candy Land. He’s all about teamwork and collaboration and encourages players to work together to bring peace back to the land. With his striped suit and minty freshness he’s the symbol of unity among the candy characters.

Princess Lolly

Princess Lolly is the bubbly and cheerful character who loves all things lollipop. With her bright colors and playful nature she’s the joy and fun of Candy Land. Princess Lolly is known for her adventurous spirit and often invites players to play games with her. She’s always happy to help especially when it comes to spreading sweetness and kindness throughout the candy world. Her whimsical presence adds a touch of magic to the Candy Land experience and is fun for players of all ages.

Which Candy Land Characters were added and then removed?

Candy Land has undergone many changes over the years to keep up with the times and trends. In 1984 a major overhaul happened when characters and a story were added to the game and it became even more sweet. The Gingerbread Kids have gotten more diverse with each new edition.

Princess Frostine has had her own changes. She went from being a princess to a queen. Here are some other changes among the Candyland characters.

Mr. Mint

Originally Mr. Mint was a jolly peppermint lumberjack who would drop candy canes in the Peppermint Forest. As the character evolved in Candyland he became Mayor Mint and took on a more official role in the game.

With red and white stripes like a candy cane, Mr. Mint is easy to spot with his peppermint wheelchair and is one of the most popular characters in Candyland.

Gramma Nutt

Living in the Peanut Brittle House, Gramma Nutt is loved by Candyland fans for being sweet. Her character is warm and cozy and players love her.

In the 2002 edition she’s joined by Bazz, her peanut dog, and is even more sweet in Candyland.

Mamma Ginger Tree

Mamma Ginger Tree is the sweetness of Candyland and took over from Plumpy the Plumpa Troll. This big character became more prominent after 2010 when Cupcake Commons took her original spot.

Even with all the changes to her position in Candyland, Mamma Ginger Tree is still a source of comfort and love in this sweet world.

Who are the Forgotten and Replaced Characters from the Classic Candy land board Game?

Over the years, to keep the game fresh and current, characters have been retired or replaced. With the 2013 edition there was a big overhaul and new characters were introduced like Mally Mallow and Twirly Girl, but old favorites like Jolly and Plumpy were retired.

Here are a few of the old Candy Land characters.

Lord Licorice

Formerly the main villain in Candyland, Lord Licorice added mischief and challenge to the game. He was the flavor of licorice and was easy to spot with his red and black clothes and handlebar mustache. His plans usually involved kidnapping King Kandy and casting a shadow over Candyland especially near his Licorice Castle.

Lord Licorice made sure Candyland wasn’t too sweet, as players had to avoid the licorice spaces he laid out to stop them. The conflict between him, King Kandy, and other characters like Princess Frostine added to the fun of this classic game. But in the latest edition Lord Licorice was removed and the game changed.

Plumpy the Plumpa Troll

The Gingerbread Plum Tree was tended by Plumpy the Plumpa Troll who collected the plums. He then passed the job on to Mamma Ginger Tree who took over his spot in the game.

Plumpy last appeared in the 1999 edition. After that he was gone.

Duke of Swirl

In the 2010 edition of Candyland a minor but fun character appeared: The Duke of Swirl. He was whimsical and added to the game but didn’t become a permanent character in the franchise.

Who are The Gingerbread Kids?

Candyland Characters Names

Since 1962 the Gingerbread Kids have been in the Candy Land board game. Over the years they’ve been updated to reflect modern values and greater diversity in newer editions of the game.

They’ve become characters in their own right because of the changes that have happened in Candy Land itself which is still a classic board game for kids.

Original Gingerbread Kids

In 1962 the Candyland game introduced plastic pawns called Gingerbread Kids. They were simple at first but soon became a staple in the game. As time went on they were featured with other favorite characters like Mamma Ginger Tree and added to the magic of Candyland.

Modern Gingerbread Kids

In the latest editions the Gingerbread Kids are more diverse. There’s an African-American boy and an Asian girl among others. That’s more representation in the Candyland world.

This is how the game has evolved to reflect modern values of diversity.
