What Is Color Brain Game?
Color Brain Game is an award-winning party game that was designed by Tristan Williams and produced by Big Potato Games in 2017. Colorbrain is a quiz board game, where players answer questions using color cards related to the characters and items in the Disney universe. Colorbrain pits players against each other individually or in teams, as they answer trivia questions with a color-related answer.
The answer will be one or multiple colors, and it’s down to the players to try and remember (or guess) the correct answer. It’s not just a case of guessing correctly though, points are scored only if other teams guess incorrectly, so winning isn’t just based on what you know, but what your opponents don’t too! Since its release, there have been multiple editions to the game including a junior version, a family board game Colorbrain, and also a travel-sized mini version.
Set-Up
Set-up in Colorbrain is very quick and simple. The game can be played with 2-4 players or 2-4 teams if there are more than four players taking part. Each player/team receives a set of eleven color cards, each with a different colour highlighted on it. On top of these, every team receives a colour capture card and a pile of question cards is placed face up and in easy reach of everybody. And that’s it! The game is now ready to begin.

How To Play Color Brain Game
Color Brain game begins with players answering the face-up question card on the top of the deck. These questions range wildly across many different subjects, but most of them are fairly easy to answer. There will be a few in there that will test your trivia knowledge, but there aren’t many that are real headscratchers. Teams will then work together to try and figure out the answer as quickly as they can. For example, a question might ask about the color of the lid on full-fat milk. When a decision is made, the first team to lay down their color cards face down shouts ‘Colorbrain!’. Everyone else will then have ten seconds to make their guess. Once everyone has made their guess, each team flips over their color cards, and then the question card to reveal the answer.
In order to score a point, not only does a team need to have guessed the correct answer, but at least one other team must have guessed incorrectly too. As long as at least one team’s answer was incorrect, any team that guessed the right answer receives a point. When all teams guess correctly, play moves on to a ‘rollover’. This is where another question card is played and the team that hand correctly answers in this round receives a bonus point. If all teams get the right answer a second time, another point is rolled over to the next round, and the team that guesses right get two bonus points. If in the unfortunate event that all teams answer incorrectly during a rollover round, all the bonus points are lost!
The game continues in this fashion until one team manages to rack up ten points, at which point they are declared the winner. If at any point a team wants to throw a spanner in the works of another team’s ascent to victory, they can play their colour capture card. This card can be played once at any point in the game, but only on a player or team that is in the lead. Each capture card will have a number on it which represents the number of color cards you can take from that team in the upcoming round. This is done blindly with the team’s cards placed facedown and being chosen one at a time. This will have a serious impact on how that team performs in the next round and will reduce their options significantly. Playing the capture card strategically can make a huge difference in how the remainder of the game plays out.
Who Is This Family Game For?
The short answer is practically everyone. This type of trivia game that’s light on rules but focuses on entertainment and social interaction is something that all types of players can enjoy. As a family game, it is suitable for all family members to play together. Granted, for those looking to spend their night playing through a three-hour campaign of Gloomhaven, Heroquest, or similar, this is probably not going to scratch their itch. What it will do however, is create a fun, lively, social experience for half an hour or so, that can include people of all ages and with different interests.
The trivia is very broad and doesn’t play to someone’s strengths or weaknesses, and with the answers being available to choose the whole game, it gives younger players an advantage they wouldn’t always have with similar types of games. Not only that, but whilst not strictly a portable game (that’s what the mini version is for) you can still take the game with you to most places as it’s a relatively small box and uses very few components. So it’s great to play both at home, or a friends, or even in the pub.
The game gets hearts racing and players laughing, making it an enjoyable and entertaining experience for everyone involved.
Disney Colorbrain
Disney Colorbrain is a magical spin on the original Colorbrain game, with beloved characters and magical moments from Disney’s treasure trove of classics at your fingertips. Designed as a family friendly edition, Disney Colorbrain is for fans of all ages who know their Simba from their Cinderella and their Aladdin from their Ariel. Same eleven color cards as the original but the questions are all Disney and Pixar movie based from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Toy Story and beyond.
The rules are the same; but the Disney characters and scenes add an extra layer of fun. Teams will guess the color of Elsa’s dress, the color of Woody’s hat or the color of the Monsters, Inc. logo. The goal is still to guess the colors while hoping your opponents guess incorrectly, strategy and memory are just as important as in the original.

The game still has quick setup and easy to learn mechanics so even the youngest of players or the least Disney savvy of fans can play. Color Brain Game is a fun quiz game that’s easy to pick up and learn and fairly quick to play through. It’s very accessible and being a trivia game means that practically anyone can play, especially where the answers are already there for players. Some may find the gameplay a bit ‘samey’ where each of the ten rounds play out in a similar way, and some of the questions a little easy especially as the potential answers are in front of you already, but this is primarily meant to be a casual game and not necessarily for those wanting more of a ‘hardcore’ board game experience. Regardless, Colorbrain is an entertaining game for family and friends. Just make sure you’re not green with envy if you don’t win, nobody likes a sore loser! Other teams might turn green when they don’t get the correct answer.
